Juanita A. Lopez
Juanita A. Lopez passed away in the early morning at her home in Reno, NV surrounded by her loved ones on February 13, 2017 at the age of 73 after battling brain cancer.
Juanita was preceded in death by her mother Valeria Lopez, her father Pablo Lopez, and her brothers Arthur and Frank Lopez.
Juanita is survived and lovingly remembered by her brother Manuel Lopez of Reno, NV, sister Mary Ellen Koffler of Elko, NV (husband Gary), her honorary “kids” nephew Kelly Koffler of Cotati, CA (wife Debbie and daughter Kaylee), nieces Valerie Bement of Elko, NV (husband Donnie, their children Garrison and Gabrielle), and Melissa Bowen of Elko, NV(husband Paul, their sons Aiden and Ryker), her brother Jesse Lopez (wife Louise, son Jaime, wife Lisa, their children Elizabeth Haughton and Brett) and son Dan (wife Gail, and their daughter Lara) all of San Diego, CA, her sister-in-law Lily Lopez of Sparks, NV (son John Lopez of Reno, NV, children Erin, Devin, Axel, and Korina) and daughter Tina Stephens of Sparks, NV (husband Rick, their children Kandace of Elko, NV, (husband Dale, their children Anthony and Autumn, and son RJ), sister-in-law Anita Lopez of Reno, NV (daughter Debbie Rossi of Reno, NV, her husband Nick, their children Jared, Christa and children Zoey and Andrew), daughter Katie, and son Thomas (fiancé Katie and daughter Addy), son Frank of Reno, NV and his daughter Alex (husband Sean), daughter Diana Davis of Reno, NV and her companion Tony, son David Lopez of Reno, NV his children Mario and Dominique and many dear friends that were like family to her.
Juanita was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on May 30th, 1943. She attended most of her schooling in Carlin, NV and spent her senior year at Elko High School. Juanita loved her time in Carlin. Juanita completed the Practical Nurse Education Program at Elko School of Practical Nursing August 8th, 1969 earning her LPN. She worked at Elko General Hospital and 30 plus years at Washoe Medical Center and Renown Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2008. She truly had a gift in nursing and influenced many with her hard work ethic.
Juanita enjoyed traveling and ventured to places near and far by boat, plane, train, and automobile. Hiking was one of her favorite hobbies. She loved spending time in her yard gardening and could name every plant and flower you asked her about. Spending time with her loved ones was something she treasured. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caretaker to family members using her nursing background. Juanita enjoyed reading and dancing to any tune that had a beat. To know her, was to love her… she was someone that wasn’t easily forgotten and will continue not to be.
A rosary will be held at Walton’s Funerals and Cremations – O’Brien-Rogers & Crosby, 600 W. Second Street, Reno, NV on Friday, February 24th at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at Little Flower Church, on Plumb and Kietzke in Reno, NV on Saturday, February 25th at 12:00pm. A celebration of life reception will take place at Walton’s Funerals and Cremations – O’Brien-Rogers & Crosby, 600 W. Second Street, Reno, NV following the funeral service.
