Obituary for Carolyn Shamberger

Carol passed peacefully on the morning of April 12, 2017 at Park Place in Reno. She was born November 21,1941 in Bakersfield, California to Judy and Stan Sevits. Her family moved to Reno, Nevada where she attended Billinghurst Junior High School. They again relocated, moving to Carson City where her father owned and operated a bakery. Carol attended and graduated from Carson City High School.

She was employed in the Ormsby County Court House in the Registration Department, where she met her husband-to-be, Allan Shamberger. After Allan finished law school at Oregon State University, they moved to Reno where Carol was employed by Sierra Pacific Power Company. She was a “stay-at-home” mom while her children were young, after which time she went to work for the Microbiology Department, University of Nevada, Reno Medical School. She retired after 20 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Allan, her son Hugh III, her mother- and father-in-law Ethel and Hugh Shamberger, and her sister Sandy Holton. She is survived by son David Shamberger of Fallon, NV; daughter Cathy Goodman (Jon) of Marietta, GA; daughter-in-law Diane Shamberger of Fallon; grandchildren: Jessica Shamberger of Logan, Utah; Will Shamberger of Fallon; Ben, Sophie and Abby Goodman of Marietta; sister-in-law Ann Ettinger of Spanish Springs; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews all of whom called her Aunt Carol.

Carol was a long-time member of AmArcs of Nevada. She enjoyed many field trips with this organization. Her favorite activity was hiking the hills around Dayton with friend Sonja. She enjoyed family get-togethers. She loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments. She was always welcoming, and no one stayed a stranger for long.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Walton’s Funeral Home, 875 W. Second St., Reno.

Private interment will be held at a later date at the Masonic Memorial Gardens in Reno. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in Carol’s name. She will be missed!
