Obituary for Twyla J. McPhie
Twyla Jean (Hay) McPhie left this life on September 27, 2017. She was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno on April 13, 1938. Twyla was the eldest of four children.
She is survived by her husband, Ted McPhie, her brother, Tom T. Hay (Rose), and her sister, Jeri (Donn) Yeoman, 2 sons, Douglas and Steve, both of Reno, 2 grandsons, Clinton of Las Vegas and Matthew of Reno, as well as many relatives from the Carson Valley and Genoa area.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Hay (Carol) of Parump, Nevada.
Twyla grew up in the city of Portola, California, attending school from grade 1 through 12 followed by a year at Chico State College.
Twyla met her husband in first grade and they graduated from Portola High in the same class but they never dated until 1966 and they were married that year on August 19th.
Twyla lived in San Francisco for the next few years, working as a model and executive secretary for the phone company and the bay area air pollution department.
She moved to Reno in 1966 where she and Ted have resided since. She worked in Reno as a legal secretary for Vargas, Bartlett, and Dixon for several years. After that she became a realtor, then a claims researcher for Homestake Mining Co.
In 1983 she and Ted started a new business in the new field of satellite TV, where they worked with their sons until retirement when they turned the business over to the boys and went golfing! Twyla's favorite activity was water skiing and camping with friends and family at Lake Lahonton.
After retirement they played golf from Canada to Mexico, to Hawaii and all courses in between. They made many wonderful friends golfing being members of the Washoe County Golf family for many years, and also the senior ladies golf group.
At Twyla's request there will be no funeral services. She wants you to,
"remember me as you knew me." There will be an open house at Twyla's house on Twin Pines Court on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from noon until....all close friends and family are invited.
